Science communication is related to the dissemination of scientific view.  It is absolutely true that much has been done to promote scientific knowledge in our country.  But this is not enough.  Much is yet to be done in this area.  Eminent agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan has said that 'our universities should help in developing such science ideas which can explain to the general public the importance of important discoveries of science in the local language.  Public understanding of science and technology cannot be developed in the absence of adequately trained manpower.


 The biggest challenge in front of science communicators is to make science communication more interesting.  There are bright career opportunities in science communication for those science students who can explain science and its achievements to the common man.  Students desirous of pursuing a career in science communication should have a keen desire to become science journalists, science writers, public relations officers, corporate communicators in science and technology, environment, health, energy and related fields and also have a tendency to speak and write.

 Science communication has now become a highly recognized subject of education in present times.  The National Council of Science and Technology Communication, a branch of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has recognized various courses in science communication.  The National Council of Science Museums under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India also offers courses in science communication.




 It is worth noting that the main goal of various academic courses in science communication is to provide science communication skills and techniques for effective communication through different media keeping in mind the spread of scientific approach, updating the knowledge of students and different fields of science communication  To enhance capacity, promote science communication in industry, research and development centers and corporate institutions and provide them practical experience in important matters of science and technology.  Science Communication courses provide systematic knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of science communication and train students to become successful communication in science and technology.  Students study the importance and role of science and technology communication, science and technology policies, history of science and technology, the emergence of modern science, the great achievements of great scientists and science journalism in India.
