UPSC exam preparation strategy | upsc prelims preparation

It is the dream of every candidate preparing for the Civil Services Exam to contribute towards policy making in the country. It is also true that it is one of the toughest exams in which lakhs of aspirants compete. In such a situation, apart from regular studies, hard work, strategic planning of preparation are the most important factors in the preparation of this exam. Studying in a pattern prepares the students for success with strong preparation. On the other hand, moving forward without strategy increases your chances of failure in the exam.

UPSC preparation without a strategy will increase your chances of failure - 

Month 1: Understand the syllabus and pattern

Start reading news papers for current affairs from day one. Spend the first month knowing the pattern of the exam. Buy the necessary study material and start understanding it. Keep a copy of the latest syllabus in front of you and keep yourself updated with the exam notices.


2nd to 5th month: Pre and Mains preparation

Read two subjects at once to avoid boredom. Prepare for Prelims and Mains also for one to two months together. Complete difficult subject areas and make notes, these will help in revision.


6th to 8th Month: Solve Papers

During this, focus on prelims and revise its syllabus at least thrice. Paper solving practice is important for both GS and CSAT. At least 100 to 120 papers have to be solved to give result oriented answers.


9th to 12th Month: Revise

In these three months for mains, you have to complete the syllabus in the first month and focus on revision. Sharpen your writing skills, as success in Mains depends on it.
